From The desk : Chitter Chadder - What's The Matter?
My first musical public release. How fun, but why?
I've been writing and recording music for the sake of my own enjoyment for around 20-ish years. Always content on just creating , locking it away for another time, and listening to amuse myself. Such fun my hands and ears have had. Along with my "at home" hobby of writing, i also have enjoyed publicly performing other people's music for the last 30 plus years, working with/for various groups and performers. Oh, what fun my eyes and feet have had as well.
2020 as we know had brought upon us a new challenge with the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of us who perform music, tour, teach, and use it's earnings as a source of revenue, had our world shut off. Like many others, we ended up canceling a year's worth of dates. It made me start to think, "How can we connect with those who looked forward to seeing and supporting us?" Many of us turned to Live Streaming on various platforms to help ease the issue of no longer being able to perform. At least not safely.
It was the generosity of many who tuned in to my weekly Facebook Live Stream "Wildman Wednesday" and "Chad Borgen's Collective", that I am able to do what I am currently writing about; having wrote, recorded, edited, mastered, as well as published and copyrighted my first piece of music. These tasks cost not only another's time, musician costs, and research, but also money. If you donated and you are reading this, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It may not seem to be a big deal for some, but it is to me. It's a passion project and my life's work that I am now able to slowly piece together and let others enjoy. My heart is very happy!
Why I picked Bee Kind To Them as my first song?
My daughter Ava and I first started to toy around with the song a few years ago. I've always enjoyed music that you can put a set of headphones on, close your eyes to, and let your imagination paint the scenes and story that are unfolding before you. I'd write some, put it away, take it out, listen and continued until we had a complete song in demo form.
This song has not only my daughter in it, but my wife Natalia also participates, narrating as "The Queen" as well as a cast of other musical friends who helped form my rough sketch into a functional piece of music. It is one big musical family. So why not???... Makes sense to me.
Bee Kind To Them is part of a larger body of work that continues to be developed, but this section was complete. When finished, the entire work maybe be titled, "The Hive Tapes", "Abstract Yarn", or what it originally started out as "Headphone Music". Regardless of the title, I have found a flame ignited in my writings knowing that what I wish to achieve is very real and very possible. "The measure of success is the amount of joy we are feeling."
For your listening pleasure. Put on some headphones and I hope you enjoy.
Thank you,
